Communion is vital in community and in the church.  In a community it is the process of people sharing and bonding and building lives together.  In the church, communion symbolizes the ongoing growth of faith and relationship with Christ.  This celebration has thousands of years of history and the richness of this celebration lies in the heart that Jesus lives in.

The communion service in the church requires supplies for sharing the elements.  The elements are the bread and the wine (juice).  Usually the bread is served on large brass or silver platters and they are passed from row to row.  The bread is usually in the shape of very small biscuits or small flat wafers.  Wafer dispensers are used as a safe and sanitary way to serve communion wafers.

The wine (juice) is served in small plastic disposable cups and is served on trays with slots to hold the cups preventing spilling while the tray is passed around.   Because of the large number of people receiving communion disposable cups is generally the most cost effective method for serving the juice.  For filling the cups there are squeeze bottles with measurement marks and non-drip spouts making the filling of the small cups much easier.  Also for filling the cups is a light weight cup filler, press a button and the filler releases the desired amount.

Portable communion sets are perfect for taking communion to a different location.  Portable communion sets contain disposable cups, a bottle for the juice and a container for the crackers.  There are many variations of portable communion sets for sell.

A more traditional portable communion set that comes with two silver plated wine cups and two silver plated plates; one to hold the cups and one to hold the elements.  It comes in a bag with a strap for carrying.  These portable communion sets are perfect for weddings, hospital visits, visiting shut-ins or a family home set.

Linens for the communion table and altar are also sold for communion.  Since it is celebrated differently by so many the supplies needed vary from church to church.

First Communion is also another “communion” practiced.  Usually at the age of seven or eight, first communion is the celebration of a child passing a long course of spiritual instruction along with moral training.   From country to country first communion is celebrated differently.  Invitations are sent so that family and friends can participate.  For a girl, the dress is very important.  It is usually white and a veil is worn.  For a boy the clothing isn’t as important but the gifts they receive are.  Gifts for first communion can be anything from a bible or jewelry to most things age appropriate.

First communion favors are for the guests attending the celebration.  Some favorite ideas include personalized mint tins, angel favors, chocolate cross lollipops, candles and photo frames to name a few.
