What is First Communion?

First Communion is an important occasion for Catholic families.  It is a Catholic Church ceremony and is a person’s celebration of moral and spiritual training.  Traditions for Communion differ from country to country but all usually involve celebration, special clothing and gifts.  Depending on the country First Communion usually takes place at age seven or eight after a long course of instruction along with moral training.

What are Communion Invitations?

Because this is a celebration many people choose to send invitations to their friends and family to invite them to witness the First Communion of their child.

 

What is worn for First Communion?

Clothing choices differ in different countries.  White is often worn to symbolize purity.  Girls usually wear party dresses with a veil, headdress and gloves.  In Scotland boys wear kilts and in Latin America countries, boys might wear uniforms.  In Switzerland both boys and girls wear plain white robes with brown wooden crosses around their necks.
